Did Lady Gaga go to far?- The Edge Of Glory

Last week was the American Idol Finale. My mom was talking to me about it on the weekend and thought that Lady Gaga's  performance was a "bit much" I didn't know what she meant by this. So I asked her. She goes "Lori, children are watching that show. She was not appropriate at all. Rolling around on that cliff." I think I had missed something. I watched it, but it totally went over my head. Even now when I see it, I don't think it is that bad.
Oh well I like it, and I didn't think of the poor children.

Hangover Part 2 - My review

Tonight I went to see the sequel to the Hangover. the crazy named - Hangover Part 2. Now very few times is a sequel better then the original. Superman 2, Empire Strikes Back,Terminator 2, even Shrek 2 all good examples. But mostly you get disasters like Sex and City 2 or Speed 2. Now this one falls somewhere in the middle. It's OK. Nothing great, but nothing really bad.
It is basically the same story from the last on, except this on is set in Bangkok, how exotic. I think they should have taken a lesson from SATC 2, just because you can film overseas, doesn't mean you have too.
When I say it is the say story, I mean it. Right down to the pictures during the end credits. The "wolf pack" get so messed up they can't remember what happened that night. They can't find Allen's future brother in law. Bangkok has him, seems to be said over and over again. Will they find him? What do you think. Will they have experienced lots of crazy things along the way? What do you think Will there be a sub plot involving a trany Thai stripper? What do you think.
Will everything work out in the end. Yeah, what do you think.
Will I run back and see this movie again? What do you think.
What did I like about this movie? Bradley Cooper's blue eyes and he wears the whitest shirt ever. Go just for him. That is really why I did.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Trailer

What is the feel good movie to see over Christmas? The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo of course.
For the 5 or so people who have not read the book yet. This Christmas brings the American movie version, directed by David Fincher, stars Daniel Craig, Stellan Skarsgaard, Robin Wright, Christopher Plummer and Joely Richardson.
The girl is played by Rooney Mara, never heard of her. She was the girl who dumps Mark Zuckerberg, in the beginning of The Social Network.
This trailer is so good. It makes me what to see this movie as soon as it come, out, even thou I already know what happens.

American Idol The Finale

Oprah was not the only show to end on May 25th. American Idol was going to pick the winner tonight. Country singer Lauren or County" I don't remember his name" guy. Either way a country singer was going to win.
I am not a fan of country music, so what would get me to watch this show. Three things.
1) What is J.Lo wearing?
2) The Musical Guests
3) Announce the winner in the first 5 min of the show, so I can watch something else.

Guaranteed the third is not going to happen. For number 1, it was a gold sparkle jumpsuit, that only Jennifer Lopez could pull off.
Now on with the Musical Guests! They always bring out the big performances for the final. Tonight was no exception.
Judas Priest playing with James the rocker guy who got voted a few weeks ago.
The ladies who didn't make to the final 2 doing a Beyonce greatest hits medley. Surprise guess who shows up on stage - Beyonce!
Tony Bennett with AI Hailey, then all the way from Celebrity Apprentice Little Jon and TLC, no idea why, but whatever.
Tim McGraw and the country guy. AI is moving these musical acts faster then the Grammys.
Wait now it is the Salsa King himself - Marc Anthony. J.Lo. is not one of the backup dancers, she is the dancer in a white dress that dances around him. What a couple.
Like the ladies,it was time for the men to sing a medley of Tom Jones songs, and guess who appears? Carlton from the Fresh Prince. No - Tom Jones.
Finally its time for Lady Gaga. FINALLY. She sings The Edge of Glory and it has a sax solo worthy of the Sexy Sax Man himself. If you have not see that yet, check my blog. This is my new song. I love it
AI winner Carrie Underwood sings with most likely this years winner, Lauren, proving that 2 people can sound identical. In a few months, they will look identical as well.
Not be out done by Gaga, Beyonce is back. She sang something dramatic and used her vocal range. Don't remember the name of the song, but at least it was live.
Lets save the best for last. Bono and The Edge performing a song from the Broadway show that nobody will see, Spiderman Turn off the Dark., Gaga and them were the main reason why I watched tonight. I can't wait to see them again in July. I loved it, of course.
Steven Tyler sings Dream On, pretty good way to end the show, oh wait we still have to see what country singer won.

THE COUNTRY GUY, are you f'ing kidding me.
Goodnight, I am going to listen The Edge of Glory again.

Goodbye Oprah.

First I would like to the thank the dozen or so people who asked me this week if I would be ok. Yes I will be fine. She has a whole network after all.
As it turns out, I had to have a plumber come to my condo at the exact same time as the Oprah Finale, so I was able to watch it live at 4pm. Oprah would say that my washing machine must have broke for that reason.
There was only one guest big enough to have on the last Oprah show - Oprah! Looking great in a pink dress she addressed the viewers with her words of wisdom from the last 25 years. I was hoping for a final book club selection, but no luck. I guess I will have to try and figure out want to pick for my summer read now.
It was a nice way to end the show, nothing to flashy or over the top. That was done on Monday and Tuesday.
At the end she gave out her email, a promised to write back. You so know I am going to send an email to see if I get a response.
Then she walked out throught that back of the studio, thanked and hugged her staff ,picked up her dog and that was it.
Done

Oprah's Last Week Show 2

Part two of the Oprah All Star Tribute. Within 5 minutes we saw Tom Hanks, Will Smith, Jada Smith, Michael Jordan, Jamie Foxx and Stevie Wonder, whew. All paying tribute to the O herself. I sort  of wished she had changed her dress for the 2nd part.  At least this is better then that out of control Over the Rainbow montage from yesterday's show.

Now Jerry Seinfeld is paying his tribute, in a tux no less. She seems surprised to see him, even thou he was sitting 10 feet from her.
Next  up Simon Cowell introducing Rosie O'Donnell and her Broadway song tribute, with Dr. Phil, Dr Oz, and Nate Burkas. Again Oprah is shocked to see these people. They were sitting in the audience for show, how shocked can she be?
Queen Latifah is back to introduce Oprah's best friend Gayle King and Maria Shriver. We learn that 64 688 kids went to school because of her. This was the first part of these shows that was more then just some song number. A proper way to show the power of O.
Maya Angelou and Alica Keys say a poem and sing a song. Oprah is still shocked.
She is even more shocked when Stedman comes on the stage. He talks about she brings her own lunch to work! Then he introduces The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin for her 20 +min rendition of Amazing Grace.
She stretched out words so long, you forgot what the word was to begin with.

The last surpised of the show - Usher. He sang, while Aretha was still finishing up her song from 20 min ago

Then that was it, only 1 show left.

Gaga eats paper

Watching this I was reminded of another famous performer that appeared on Letterman.  I am just glad the album is good, so when she startes eating paper at the 13 min mark I can forgive her.

Oprah's Last Week Show 1

This is a very sad week for me. Oprah only has 3 shows left! What am I going to do? Other then watch her OWN network. Really what am I going to do?
Today is the 1st part of the 3 day spectacular, I wrote about it when it was being filmed, now I can actually see it. Thanks for time shifter, I can see it 2pm.

Ok I will admit this Part 1 of the tribute show was a little cheesy. I find it hard to believe that Oprah had zero idea that any of these famous guests were going to be appearing. She had no idea about Tom Hanks, Tom Curise. Ok
Now we have the kid from America's got Talent singing in red shoes like the Wizard of Oz, then Josh Groban & Patti Labelle singing Over the Rainbow?  I never thought that I would be hoping for Tom Crusie to start couch jumping.
Just when I think, turn that the channel so this doesn't scar you, Tom Hanks introduces a mother of 4 from NYC. Yes only Madonna can save this. Looking fabulous, she gave a lovely speech about how great Oprah is, that she has inspired her to continue he fight with her school for girls in Africa. I not that going to comment on that.

Now its time for a segment on kids that love Oprah and how she has taught them to be better people. This is a perfect way to introduce Beyonce and her song, Rule the World (Girls). See my last post on that song. Beyonce starts handing out diplomas to her women dancers,  funny because I don't think Beyonce has any diplomas. She dances, jumps around, flips her hair, and gets the audience to hold up lights. Yeah I'm hoping Madonna comes back too.

Blah blah stuff about books, Oprah trees, kids reading. I'm wondering where is this show going..

Now two great actress's take the stage Queen Latifah, Halle Berry and Katie Holmes. Yes I said 2.
More stuff about how women have changed the world, I guess Beyonce didn't cover that off already.

Now its Tom and Katie, they introduce Rascal Flatts. What??? Rascal Flatts. They sing a song that has nothing to do with helping women or Oprah.

Then its over,I have to wait till tomorrow for part 2 of the Oprah Tribute.

I don't want to run this world Beyoncé

Oh Beyonce.
Last week, taking a cue from Jennifer Lopez, debuted your new video for the song Run The World (Girls) on American Idol.
This is supposed to be the "song of the summer." Well then this summer is going to a bad one.
Not only is the song annoying, the video is worse.
The song is called Run This World (Girls). Well after watching the video, apparently you have to wear little, dance like you have some sort of  medical conditional and must be under the age of 30. No thanks
Bad choreography, bad costumes and a plot that makes zero sense.
What has happened to the great Beyonce?  I can only hope her next single is better.
On a positve note to end with, she looks great.

I don't want to be this woman

As most people know, there is nothing I love more then a romantic comedy. (that's me rolling my eyes back). I especially love the ones were a mid 30 + women, who is beautiful, successful, great job,and lives in a penthouse condo, that in reality would be something a multi millionaire would live in is SO unhappy.
She is either struggling to find  Mr. Right or due to her clock ticking away, a baby. Yes you can see how these become for someone like myself, the feel - good movies of the year.

On this rainy weekend I decided to watch on of these fine movies.
None was more uplifting then "The Switch", about a successful women who can't find the one, so she throws a " Donor Party" so everyone can meet the guy who has volunteered for money to donate a little something so this poor poor 30 something woman can have a baby. What a beautiful story. The Switch happens when Jason Batmen's character gets drunk and you know "Switches" the container, if you get what I'm saying. This is where the fun begins. Fast forward 7 years, (and everyone looks and dresses the same) will Jennifer Aniston make the connection that her son looks just like her best friend? We only have an 1 hour left in this movie to find out.

What was worse was that I actually found myself hoping it worked out?  I have never enjoyed these types of movies before so you can guess my disgusted in myself that I was feeling this. I am happy to say that it  works out for these two fine people. In the end they have this wonderful family and everything is just perfect as it should be.
I on the other hand wanted to pretend that I didn't like this movie, and went back to watching reruns of The Office, just as it should be.

Also when I say I don't want to that woman, I mean the one who likes these movies, it has nothing to do with Jennifer Anstion, sorry to some of my friends who were hoping that is what I meant.

The Ambiguously Gay Duo Live

I have not been a fan of SNL this year for the most part, but last nights show had a skit that was a pleasant surprise.  With Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell (who are usually the voices of Ace and Gary), Ed Helms, Jimmy Fallon and Jon Hamm, SNL needs to make this into a movie now!

Possible Weekend Look

What is not to love about this! I just need to find the wig. Lady Gaga does it again.

What the hell is Bison Vodka

Many people have heard me talk about Bison Vodka and my love for it! My friend Stacey told about Żubrówka Vodka that you mix with apple juice. I figured it would be good. I was wrong, its amazing
What makes this vodka different, then others? A blade of buffalo grass is placed in each bottle of Żubrówka. Rumour has it, that the "things" can happen if you eat the blade of grass, and I'll leave it at that.
It's about $25 at the LCBO and is just in time for the summer.
Get it!

Does Lady Gaga's Lip Sync?

I wonder who she is referring too?
This is why everyone should see Gaga live at least once.

Crack May be Whack

As news broke today that the Queen of Crazy Divas, Whitney Houston was back in rehab I couldn't help but remember her fantastic 2002 interview with Diane Sawyer.

I have always considered this interview the gold standard of celebrity train wreck interviews. Before Charlie's Duh Winning, there was Whitney's "Crack is Whack."
For me though that was not the high point, excuse the pun part of the interview. The part were she brings out her Bi-Polar husband and talks about her Rock and Roll life while sliding off the couch the highlight for me.

Now look I have always been a fan of Whitney. I remember my Uncle and Aunt taking me to see her at the CNE Grandstand in Toronto as a kid. To date myself "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" was her big hit. Yes that was a long time ago.

I can't wait for your post rehab interview Whitney!

(Randy this one is for you!)

Only 13 shows left.

The preview for the final 13 shows have started, and so have my tears.
Who will tell me what books to read?
Who will tell me what experts I should listen to?

Lady Gaga's - Judas, My Review

What happens when Sons of Anarchy meets Lady Gaga. You get the video for Judas. Where guns shoot red lipstick instend of bullets.
I have to admit I like this song better then Born This Way. Coming in at only 5:35 min it is one of Gaga's shortest videos.
Take note Britney, Gaga dances!
This song has been full of controversy for its religious images, but just like with any Madonna video's, I could care less.

Gaga has another hit on her hands, and I bet the song she will sing at this years MMVA's
Really did anyone think that I would not this song? I didn't think so

Funny Story, I think anyways

Last night we all heard the news about Osama bin Laden. Unfortunately I had to hear about it right as they we going announce who was voted off Celebrity Apprentice,  but I will talk about that later. This is a funny story, I think, that I had to share.
Last night I was on the phone discussing this major world event with someone who will remain nameless. I started telling the story of how he was caught at his mansion in Pakistan. I never thought anyone would believe it because it was so ridiculous.
Osama was sitting in a room drinking a cup of tea and watching like everyone else in the world, the Royal Wedding. (Ok most people would start laughing, so I thought) He didn't know the Navy Seals knew about his soft spot for the British Royal Family or that they were staking him out while he watched the service on his satellite feed.
The only question my friend asked "But Lori he was killed on a Sat?" My answer "Yes but with the time difference it was Sat in Pakistan."
Then right at the point where William and Catherine were about to kiss on the balcony, out popped the Navy Seals, pointed the gun at him and said "Kiss this Osama!"
My friend goes "Really? How do you know all that? Was than in Obama's speech?"
Now I am not sure what was funnier, the fact that I was able to say this story without laughing or that the person I was talking to totally believed me. I  had tears in my eyes from laughing so hard.

President Obama at the 2011 White House Correspondents' Dinner

I am not sure what is better. The jokes or Donald Trump' face. He doesn't ever crack an expression. He just sits and stares with disgust.
I wish Canada's politician's could be as interesting.
This was done the day before the big announcement about Osama, and President Obama is very funny, not as funny as Donald's death stars, but close.

"The Queen"

For the past week I have become addicted to the whole Royal Wedding event and everything about the British Royal Family. I partly blame my Grandma for this. One of her personal favorites is Queen Elizabeth. So I was doing some reading on her and discovered what her actual title is.  I can understand why she just goes by The Queen, this would make for a very long resume.

"Her Majesty Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, of Great Britain, Ireland and the British Dominions beyond the Seas Queen, Defender of the Faith, Duchess of Edinburgh, Countess of Merioneth, Baroness Greenwich, Duke of Lancaster, Lord of Mann, Duke of Normandy, Sovereign of the Most Honourable Order of the Garter, Sovereign of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, Sovereign of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, Sovereign of the Most Illustrious Order of Saint Patrick, Sovereign of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Sovereign of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Sovereign of the Distinguished Service Order, Sovereign of the Imperial Service Order, Sovereign of the Most Exalted Order of the Star of India, Sovereign of the Most Eminent Order of the Indian Empire, Sovereign of the Order of British India, Sovereign of the Indian Order of Merit, Sovereign of the Order of Burma, Sovereign of the Royal Order of Victoria and Albert, Sovereign of the Royal Family Order of King Edward VII, Sovereign of the Order of Merit, Sovereign of the Order of the Companions of Honour, Sovereign of the Royal Victorian Order, Sovereign of the Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem."
